  Bizarre conversations

  tula and i started talking about this yesterday.

  can anybody tell us what's going on here or how to deal with these goofy conversations?

  we're not talking about anything even remotely connected with religion, god, the bible or jws.

  For instance, if I ask if he needs me to pick up some more Tums, I won't get a yes or no. I might get something like an explanation of what Tums do for him. He just starts on some long-winded "explanation" sort of answer to a yes or no question. When I re-ask the question, he starts getting angry, especially if I say it's just a simple yes or no that I'm looking for. Sometimes I'll say, "So that's a yes?"

  Yep, sounds like me and my husband. I don't think it has anything to do with being a JW. Drew wasn't raised a dub, nor were his parents, and his dad does exactly the same thing. I think it's because he wasn't paying attention to what I asked him and is trying not to get caught. He heard maybe one or two words and knows it was in the from of a question so the more that he says about the subject, the more likely he will be to give the proper answer to the unkown question asked.

  Special announcement next week?????

  it was announced at the meeting last night that next week all should be in attendance at the service meeting as a special important letter will be read.

  this is in addition to the letter about the district convention.

  any idea what it's about?

  They last time they announced that there was going to be a special announcement coming soon, it was just that they revised the OM book (I don't even know what the real name is but it was green). So I'm sure that the next special, important announcement will be just as thrilling, if not more so!

  Unexplained Mormon "miracles"...Unexplained JW "miracles"

  ok... lets get the ribbing aside.

  our mormon "miracles" are more unexplainable than yours.... one of the many tools used by the morg to keep it's members active is the use of faith promoting stories involving apparent miracles... or the unexplainable.

  there are unexplainable stories even in my own family.

  I am envious of Mormons for this very reason. The Mormon religion is so much more imaginative and colorful than the JW, thier origins, thier rituals, their great journey across America, baptisim pools, everything! Mormon's seem to revel in their off beat teachings whereas JWs hide from theirs and instead, revel in their unremarkableness, lack of creativity, and blandness. Someone described them as Vanilla. Vanilla is flavor and a pleasant one. If JW's had a taste, I would say it was typing paper.

  If Must Obey says this method worked for him, I believe him. Good for him! However, I can say that this wouldn't have worked on me. I wold have reasoned, like a previous poster stated that Jesus saw the Bible Students as a "fixer upper" religion and the rest of them didn't want to go throught the pain of "purification". I actually used to picture Jesus in heaven checking his calander and realizing it was time for him to pick a religion. Gazing down on the earth, stroking his chin, muttering to himself "Slim pickin's, slim pickin's...I guess I'll go with this one." Secondly, I would have scoffed at the statement that there are still thousands of Bible Students. C'mon man, where's your proof! would have been my reply. But keep using it if it works for you.

  just telling it like it is.... so you have the mormons.. like there are a lot of rich mormons.

  mitt romney being one of them.. then there's the scientology people.

  yes... also an alternative religion like jw and mormons.. like there are tons of rich scientologists in tom cruise world.. and i know that in jw there are some wealthy people.. but i tell you, in jw the overall feel is that being poor is glorified.. my experience is there is a ton of descrimination in the organization.

  Around here, everybody loves the dubs with money, even inactive ones. The reason is simple. They throw the best parties and everyone wants to be invited to their large, beautiful homes.

  Kingdom Hall is packed

  right near my apartment there is a kingdom hall that sits next to the interstate.

  i passed by there tonight at 5 pm and it was totally packed.

  i mean there were cars lined all up and down the driveway.

  Huh, that's funny. I noticed the same thing yesterday at my local KH! I drove past it at about 3:20 and cars were just leaving at that time. Usually the meeting is over at 2:30. I couldn't stop wondering what would make people stay an additional 45 min. There were too many cars in the lot to be an elders meeting - unless they made every male an elder?

  WTS response to 9/11

  i'm sure this has been discussed in length, but i'm a newbie :).

  one item that really shocked me, back when i believed this was 'the truth' was the lack of response to the 9/11 attacks.

  as all of us, we were really shocked and really were looking for comfort at the meeting (school/service meeting).

  All that I remember the Watchtower doing was like 3 weeks after the fact they reprinted an issue of the Watchtower from several months earlier on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Even then I thought this was pretty much a token response. Like they were sick of people asking their opinion so they better do something.

  Oh, yeah I just remembered this too. There were stories of Bethelites and Watchtower representitaves given permission to witness at ground zero. Members of other churches asked them what they were telling people and the Watchtower people refused to share with them because their message was so good that they didn't want anyone to copy them. Disgusting fools.

  mine was all my cousins coming to visit over the holidays, and a big turkey dinner.
